Imagine you and your friends are looking for a funny evening in Leuven. You decide to go to a new club, but at the door the doorman refuses you to enter, mentioning that the club is full. However, as you and your friends want to leave, you can see, that other people are allowed to enter. In other words, you have been refused because you need a member card to enter. Yet, as you ask for it, you are told that ‘people like you’ do not get one.

On the first week of March, in association with K.U.Leuven and the University Parish, Serve the City Leuven is organizing a week of volunteering called the ‘ICare Campaign’. After the scandal at the beginning of this academic year in the faculty of Arts – a professor openly admitted plagiarism, but was only given a slap on the wrist – it seems K.U. Leuven still is not in the clear as it finds itself deeply involved in another controversy. In silence a renowned professor at the Institute of Philosophy suddenly and mysteriously disappeared for ‘personal reasons’. Naturally this sudden vanishing left the philosophy students with many question marks. When The Voice heard about it, it dug into the story and came up with the following reconstruction of shocking events.

In the previous issue of The Voice, we took a dive into the nature of the financial problems international students cope with. As a next step, some solutions to those monetary troubles are put forward. Most students know that the Social Service of K.U.Leuven is the place to be for financial advice; but for many it is unclear in which cases they can effectively ask monetary support.
