The International Contact Club of Leuven is a social club affiliated to the university and founded in 1971 by Rector De Somer. Its public is composed of foreign professors and post-doctoral researchers as well as post-graduate students. It strives to organize cultural activities for the above mentioned public and their families.

The ICC was originally intended to create activities for the wives of foreign professors and researchers who, if jobless, were mostly confined home, cooking and taking care of the children. The ICC was meant to give them the opportunity to have some time for themselves. The initial activities were limited to gymnastic sessions and cultural lectures destined to women only. The ICC has since notably evolved to include visiting professors, researchers and doctoral students along with their families. It always had and still preciously preserves its family-oriented mission

The current activities organized by the ICC evolve around two concepts: The one day guided trips to a Belgian or foreign city, and the local cultural events taking place in and around Leuven.

For the 2009-2010 academic year we have here the schedule of the upcoming trips:

• December 12: Waterloo and Brussels
• February 20: The Stella Artois Brewery
• March 20: Luxemburg
• April 17: Keukenhof (The Netherlands)
• May 8: Trier (Germany)

…and the schedule of the Leuven cultural visits:

• November 28: Visit of the Sint-Pieters church and museum at 2 PM
• December 2: Visit of the Town Hall at 7 PM
• February 10: Guided visit of Leuven, with a special attention given to statues at 7 PM
• February 27: Visit of the academic hospital Gasthuisberg at 10 AM
• March 10: Visit of the Arenberg Castle and the library of Heverlee at 7 PM
• April 21: Visit of the Colleges of the Naamsestraat at 7 PM
• May 19: Guided visit of the Begijnhof and Begijnhof Church at 7 PM.
