docville-sinside-job"A financial engineer earns 4 till 100 times more than a real engineer. A real engineer build bridges, while a financial engineer builds dreams."

With this sentence, one of the interviewees summarizes the whole documentary and hence the problem of the financial crisis. The director of 'Inside Job', Charles Ferguson was faced with an enormous complicated task. Nevertheless he succeeded in giving a short preamble to the crisis which erupted in 2008 as well as an overall description of it.

Many people from both camps are interviewed, although a lot of the ´guilty´ did not want to give a comment. With the 'guilty' executives of the big financial institutions, people from the academic world as well as the US government are meant in this documentary. By pointing at these people, the documentary has a critical point of view upon those who caused the problems. Although the capitalist system is extremely complex and links today, all parts of the world with each other, the epicentre of the problems it caused lies in the United States. In the documentary minor interest is paid to the rest of the world.

While grappling with such a complex task, some issues are explained very well, while others remain somewhat unclear. Next to the technical details, which are voiced throughout the movie by Matt Damon, the larger problem of the 'American Dream' is discussed. Nevertheless, in the end the documentary gives a rather clear and general overview of the financial crisis for those who are relatively new to the subject and invites you to broaden your knowledge on it.
